Title: eHealth – information models, terminologies and standards for representation and communication of medical information


Topics that will be covered in this guest lecture include:

First part by Line Andreassen Sæle (35 minutes):

  • Standards for representation and communication of medical information.
  • National and international standardization work within eHealth.
  • Will touch upon: XML, HL7 v2, v3, openEHR, CDA & FHIR and IHE XDS.

Second part by Silje Ljosland Bakke (35 minutes):

  • The problem of information representation in e-health, information models, openEHR & archetypes, and terminologies (including SNOMED CT).


Line Andreassen Sæle did her master degree at NTNU in Technical Cybernetics, Medical Imaging. She has previously been working with functional MRI at Haukeland University Hospital and also have work experience within the private telecom sector. From there on she moved on to InfoCare where she got interested in integration work – which directed the next move to Helse Vest IKT. Since 2015 she has been working as an Enterprise Architect at Nasjonal IKT HF.

Sæle is currently the chair of HL7 Norway and also the co-chair for Patient Administration Work Group in HL7 International.

Silje Ljosland Bakke is an informatician and registered nurse, and has a clinical background in plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery as well as clinical research from the University Hospital of Northern Norway (Tromsø). She has been working in the area of eHealth for more than five years, first in the Bergen Hospital trust. Her current position is as an Information Architect at Nasjonal IKT HF.

Bakke has been a leading figure in Norway’s national archetype governance since its start in 2013, and she joined the openEHR Foundation as a co-lead of their Clinical Models Program in 2015. She was appointed as Norway’s representative to the council of the European Federation of Medical Informatics (EFMI) in 2016.
