Title: Variational image processing

Imaging science has long been in the hands of computer scientists and electrical engineers, and recently it has started to attract also the mathematics community. Its applications are found everywhere in our day to day life: in medical imaging, remote sensing, video surveillance applications, weather forecasting, fingerprint analysis, and many more.

In this talk we will discuss some of the recent advances in image processing based on variational methods where we end up having to solve sets of non-linear partial differential
equations. Some applications on the classical problems like image restoration and image in-painting will be shown.
